Welcome to Sunrise Volleyball Academy, the home of junior volleyball in Uganda. This is the 1st Volleyball Academy officially opened, launched and commissioned in Uganda and is so far the only Academy in the Country of about 34 million people and over 100 volleyball clubs and teams.
we have decided to share our existence and presence with you. We know we can correspond, network and become friends as far as Volleyball Academies are concerned and we can really share a lot. Therefore, kindly share some of our brief information.
Sunrise Volleyball Academy is located in central Uganda, East Africa on the African continent. it is affiliated to Uganda Volleyball Association
Sunrise Volleyball Academy is a programmatic volleyball sporting institution which was started in March 2012 and was officially launched and commissioned on 9th November 2012. This is the first ever volleyball Academy in Uganda as a special school for training and instructing the young generation specifically to learn and play volleyball in Uganda. This idea was generated by Sunrise Volleyball Committee after a series of tournaments participated from May 2012 in various regions of Uganda. This Academy is housed by Sunrise Primary School-Matugga, situated 12 kilometers along Kampala-Bombo road in Wakiso District. This program of recent covered volleyball playing schools of primary category from Matugga area. It further spread to Wakiso District and it’s now national with players from various regions of the country.
There are various categories involved within the Academy based on both sex and age. It accommodated girls and boys of 8-18 years of age. The number of players recruited onto the program has rapidly increased from 20 to now over 1100 from March to November 2013.
This activity was envisaged to officially commission the Academy to carry out its operations to the general public and the entire World with an official name amidst and courtesy of the responsible stakeholders to strengthen a systematic approach in order to help the Academy realize its set goals and objectives for better performance and yielding a multiplier effect.
This official launch involved all responsible stakeholders including the children(players), the parents, various head teachers, local council authorities, Distinct officials, Uganda Volleyball Federation officials, Ministry of Education and sports representatives’, Media and press representatives
GOALS
The major goal of this programme is to contribute to the development and promotion of volleyball from the grassroots by encouraging the young population play and love it through the existing education system for the better livelihood and a better Uganda’s future.
MISSION
To strengthen volleyball talents of the young players to influence social, economic transformation by providing relevant sports, education opportunities, health services thus enabling them develop volleyball skills, techniques and abilities for future developments.
VISION
A well established self-sustaining volleyball academy
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
To officially launch and commission the Volleyball Academy in order to carry out its functions and activities.
To bring together the various and responsible stakeholders involved as far as the Academy is concerned.
To create an enabling environment of the academy to develop and improve the level and standards of volleyball in Uganda from the grassroots through technical cooperation and approach.
To increase the opportunity for disadvantaged volleyball youth talents like orphans, school dropouts, low income families find better teams nationally and internationally in order to improve their standards of living.
To improve the technical skills and abilities to the volleyball playing youth in various and related sports disciplines through Physic Education for better livelihoods.
To identify volleyball playing schools at high school level for recommendations and linking up with international academies.
To construct a desirable recreation center with volleyball playing courts and offices of a recommended standard.
To organize training clinics, retreats, seminars, conferences and volleyball tournaments for effective participation.
To create awareness and sensitization on health issues, life planning skills and promote discipline among the young population.
To enhance job and employment opportunities and promoting the “Girl child” empowerment strategy.
To give support to the government in its effort to improve the level and standards of sports and education from the lower levels.
To lobby and mobilize resources, funds, materials and logistics to allow the project meet its facilitations and cover running and overhead costs.
To contribute to the global fight against HIV/AIDS, sanitation, hygiene, nutrition through networking with other health departments.
To provide social rehabilitation to un-privileged youngsters in order to promote self reliance and reduce dependence attitude.
To establish a competent and fully functional leadership and administrative structure to steer, implement, plan, organize, monitor, evaluate, supervise, follow up, and manage data for Sunrise Volleyball Academy towards achieving its self goals and objectives for better programme performance.
